FAQ
Questions we get asked
01How do I get in touch with SuperUltra?
Talk to Mave, our assistant, on this page, or book a Promise-to-Proof Diagnostic. SuperUltra works with medium and large organisations across South Africa and internationally.
02Who is SuperUltra?
SuperUltra is a South African product design and innovation studio. It grew out of Terrestrial, an award-winning industrial design studio, and now designs products, services and customer experiences for medium and large organisations. Since 2020 it has delivered more than 120 projects across financial services, mining and industrial, manufacturing and the public sector.
03What does SuperUltra do, and which problems does it solve?
SuperUltra turns business promises into products, platforms, services and workflows people understand, trust and adopt. We help with seven problems: brand and positioning, new propositions and go-to-market, service design and CX, digital product design and UX, adoption, legacy modernisation and culture.
04Who designs products, services and customer experiences for large South African organisations, and what’s the evidence they deliver?
SuperUltra, a Promise-to-Proof product design partner working with senior leaders at medium and large South African organisations and international brands. Since 2020 it has delivered more than 120 projects in financial services, mining and industrial, manufacturing and the public sector. Repeat clients include Anglo American (14 projects), Bidvest (13), Direct Transact (9) and FNB (7).
05What does brand positioning actually involve?
Finding the ground a business can credibly own, expressing it clearly, and carrying it through the brand, product and customer experience. SuperUltra defines the promise, finds where the experience keeps or breaks it, and designs the touchpoints so the promise is delivered, not just marketed.
06How do you turn a new proposition into a product customers actually adopt?
SuperUltra sharpens the proposition, tests the business case with real customers, designs the product and service that deliver it, then designs the launch. Our team runs all four stages, so nothing gets lost between the boardroom and the customer.
07What is service design, and how is it different from customer experience?
Customer experience is what your customer encounters. Service design builds the machinery that delivers it: the journeys, handovers, roles, systems and back-stage workflows. SuperUltra starts with the journey customers should have, then designs what has to sit behind it so the experience holds up every time. Strategy is the promise. Service design is the proof.
08What is digital product design, and how is it different from UX/UI design?
Digital product design decides what a product should be and how it should work, bringing together user needs, business value, technology, service design, workflows and interface. UX/UI design focuses on the interaction and interface within that larger job. Design only the interface and you make a weak proposition easier to use.
09Why don’t staff and customers use a new system after rollout?
Usually because the value is unclear, the journey has friction, trust cues are missing, or the internal workflow was never redesigned around the system. Each one is fixable by design, not with more training. SuperUltra designs for adoption from the start, across the product, the journey and the way work gets done.
10What does legacy system modernisation involve, and which parts are design rather than technical replacement?
Platform replacement, integration and data migration are technical work. The journeys, workflows, portals, internal tools and adoption work around them are design. SuperUltra owns the design half, working alongside your platform and engineering partners.
11Can company culture actually be designed?
Yes, but not only by writing values. Culture is shaped by the behaviours, decisions, rituals and ways of working that get repeated every day. SuperUltra designs those around what your strategy needs people to actually do.
